Nepse dip by 3.88 points transactions fall

The market underwent through another week of gloom as the major companies failed to bring shine in the market pushing the Nepse index down by 3.88 points, this week -January 21 to 28.
The week’s top gainers did not hold much weightage in overall stock transaction failing to pull the index up. Lumbini General Insurance, Reliable Finance Ltd and Tinau Development Bank Ltd were the top gainers of the week.
On the other hand, the share prices of major companies with higher weightage such as Nabil Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Agriculture Development Bank Ltd and Nepal Telecom recorded loss contributing in Nepse’s downward slide.
On sunday morning the stock market opened at 320.56 points that reclined to 320.22 points by the end of the day. The index slid down continuously next three days and reached at 316.68 points.
Nepse saw trading of 392,712 unit shares of 116 companies on 5518 transactions worth Rs 91.8 million in four trading days, this week. This is 46.42 per cent increment in trading volume as compared to that of last week’s Rs 63.9 million.
The sensitive index that measures the Class-A companies’ performance went down by 1 points reaching 78.32 points at the end of the week. The float index that measures the performance of actual shares traded also increased by 0.37 points to 25.05 points.
Except for hotels and hydropower companies all the subgroups ended up losing in the week’s trading. Hotels gained 4.07 points while hydropower went up by
The biggest loser of the week was banking that went down by 6.13 points as major commercial banks lost their share prices. Second in line was insurance that lost 3.11 points. Others, development banks and finance companies lost 2.35 points, 1.1 points and 1.17 points, respectively.

ADBN may face NRB music for not getting deposits insured

The central bank may take action Agriculture Development Bank Nepal (ADBN) for its failure to get its individual deposits up to Rs 200,000 insured by Deposit and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DCGC).

The deadline set by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) for commercial banks to get the job done expired in mid-December, and ADBN is the only commercial bank to miss the deadline.

NRB official said they are now pondering on the nature of punishment to be initiated against ADBL. “Although it is a state-owned bank, this is an issue of non-compliance and we are forced to take action against ADBL,” said a senior NRB official.

Among the actions being considered by the central bank against ADBN are first issuing warning, and then forbidding it to work in the areas of foreign exchange. “In the next phase, we can ban on purchasing and selling government securities,” said the official. ADBL, however, said it has no intentions to go against the NRB’s directive and the bank has started process of getting the deposits insured.

Newly appointed ADBL CEO Tej Bahadur Budhathoki said the bank is currently collecting data for the purpose. “Our bank has the largest branch network of 243 and a majority of them are not integrated in the online system, making it difficult for us to collect the data,” said Budhathoki. “Nevertheless, we will be able to complete our data collection within a few weeks.”

The CEO also said the bank has asked DCGC for an extension of the deadline until the end of the current fiscal year. “Although we haven’t exchanged official letters, there has been a verbal agreement,” he said.
